6 creative ways to reduce stress and unwind
As women, it can sometimes feel like we are constantly juggling a range of responsibilities, including work, family, relationships, household chores and more. As a result, we can quickly feel overwhelmed and exhausted. It is therefore important to look for ways to take good care of ourselves and find peace of mind. One way we can do that is by using creativity as self-care.
Creativity can be a powerful way to relax and calm your mind. It can help clear your mind and focus on something other than everyday stress. Here are some creative self-care ideas that can help you recharge and unwind.
- Make art
Grab a pencil or brush and get to work drawing or painting. It doesn’t matter if you think you’re good or not, it’s about allowing yourself to create without judgment. Choose colors that appeal to you and create whatever you like, whether abstract or realistic. - Make music
Music can help us express emotions and relieve tension. If you play an instrument, take time to play without any performance pressure. Or make a playlist of songs that calm and relax you. - Write
Writing can be a great way to process your thoughts and reduce stress. Write in a journal, create poetry or write fiction. Most importantly, allow yourself to write freely, without restrictions. - Create something with your hands
Whether you paint, draw, knit, crochet, sew or do anything else, working with your hands can be relaxing and help you de-stress. Choose a project you enjoy and work on it slowly, without pressure to get it finished. You can start by yourself with what you have around the house or take a creative class. - Get out into nature
Spend time in nature and use it as a time to relax and unwind. Take a walk in the park, go to the beach or go hiking in the mountains. Focus on the sounds, smells and sights around you. - Do yoga or meditation
Yoga and meditation are both great ways to help you relax and unwind. Do one of my courses that includes yoga nidra or visualization, take a yoga class online or find a meditation app to guide you.
Self-care is important and it takes time and effort to invest in yourself. Use these creative ideas as inspiration to get started and discover what works best for you. Remember to take regular time to relax and rest so you can recharge yourself and be the best version of yourself. It may not come naturally right away, but that’s ok. You are doing your best. Every time you think “Oh no forgot again” try to schedule a moment on the day or the day after to do it anyway. Breathe in and out deeply. You are good the way you are.
